Nick Fehrenbach knew he wanted to be an entrepreneur at the age of 7, inspired by watching his father create and sell art as an artist.
While majoring in marketing in college and working full-time at FedEx, Fehrenbach started looking at the big stresses in people’s lives and discovered that moving is among the top 10 stressors in the nation. After an analysis of creating such a company to address the need, he figured it was cost-effective to start.
Using the back of his Toyota Corolla, rented dollies and a truck, he launched the business in 2018 while still going to school and working at FedEx. His days started early, working in the mornings, attending classes at night, and squeezing in time to build his business in between. When he started making money, he eventually quit FedEx.
He began Faith Moving with three vehicles and rented a warehouse in Rio Rancho where he could store vehicles and equipment. The business is based on Fehrenbach’s Christian values, which he carries throughout the company.
“I wanted those values to shine in our service. Moving companies have a very bad reputation in the market. I saw an open market for a customer service-first moving company,” he said. “There are other companies, but I wanted mine to be one of the most reputable moving companies in town.”
Fehrenbach also wanted his business to be different from other movers by focusing on employee development, a concept he heard while attending an industry conference.
“It was like an academy, but they teach them life skills, some of the things you didn’t learn in high school like how to invest and how to balance a checkbook. I always knew I wanted to help people, and there was a point that I knew I could do that and that is when I got off the truck,” Fehrenbach said, adding that he spends most of his time in an administrative role now. “My goal is to help young men grow.”
Today, he employs 11 people and offers commercial and residential moves across New Mexico. Faith Moving also provides junk removal and labor-only loading or unloading services.
The company continues to excel as it recently celebrated its first major accolade after receiving Albuquerque the Magazine’s 2024 Best in the City for Moving in its annual Best of the City awards contest. Looking ahead, Fehrenbach envisions franchising Faith Moving, similar to the model of Two Men and a Truck.
Fehrenbach is thankful for The Loan Fund, which he found during an online search when he needed capital to purchase a large truck in 2024. The new hauler is a huge savings to his bottom line since he doesn’t have to rely on rentals anymore.
“The Loan Fund was super helpful and was so informative because this is my first business,” he said. “I went to the more traditional banks and just felt like I was just a number there. I like the fact that they gave me a chance because I didn’t have much credit history – it has really helped me grow.”
